Head over to the Modern Cottage at 311 S. 7th St. – owner and decorating whiz, Alison Bryan, has the artist’s touch when it comes to refreshing old-school pieces so they look just right for today. She can even give some of your old favorites new life! Her newly opened Spaceworks Tacoma showroom is full of great finds at a fraction of the price of conventional furniture. Live Paint / Theatre Workshop

Starting Feb. 25, Live Paint will offer theater workshops for adults every Sat., 1-3pm, free of charge. Arnold promises a relaxed environment for actors wanting to read for an audience or to perform improv, dancers looking to bounce around ideas, and writers seeking feedback on scripts in progress. Fab-5 / FABITAT: A Creative Lab

Fab-5 is a team of graffiti artists whose goals extend far beyond physical walls: the non-profit group provides local youth with mentoring in the arts. This summer, Fab-5 is launching FABITAT, a creative enterprise to connect diverse youth with practicing arts professionals in a multi-purpose instructional lab on Tacoma’s Hilltop. Open Tuesday-Friday, 4pm-10pm. L.I.F.E. workshops every Saturday in July and August, 11am-3pm. Toy Boat Theatre / Dakota’s Belly, Wyoming

Theater pros Marilyn Bennett, Jen Davis and Alex Smith joined forces with the University of Puget Sound to develop Dakota’s Belly, Wyoming, a play by Erin Cressida Wilson, in this performance space on Tacoma’s Hilltop. The Personal Power Company is a multimedia production company and think tank designed around the idea that creativity is a sustainable resource. This collaborative showroom/gallery/production house showcases multimedia work by its members: Kris Crews, Bridgett Nicol, Ben Paris, Nicolas Hartzell, Phil Harty, Allan Boothe, Jena Leigh-Kathryn Van-Stedtler, and many others.

The Barefoot Collective (tBFC) is a local dance company who, since 2008, have earned praise for their original, contemporary works of power and passion. tBFC is the recipient of a three-month Spaceworks Tacoma creative residency that will support the completion of a major piece, The Ides of May, to be performed the weekend of May 14-15. The studio will also hold community auditions and offer dance instruction to students of all levels at their 915 Pacific Avenue rehearsal space. www.barefootcollective.org

Local filmmaker Aaron Flett takes on “the issues of fundamentalism, love, lust, greed and marijuana in this dark comedy.” The film shoots locally from July – Sept.; the filmmaker is on the lookout for assistant crew members, upcoming talent and extras.
