How would you change the face of Tacoma? Apply to Spaceworks and be a part of the conversation.

Members of the Personal Power Company, recipients of a Spaceworks Tacoma artists residency.

By partnering with talented and innovative artists and entrepreneurs like you, Spaceworks is transforming empty storefronts and vacant spaces into dynamic points of interest, making Tacoma an economically stronger and more culturally vibrant city.

Want to get involved? There are three programs available for participation:

1) Artscapes temporarily places 2-dimensional, 3-dimensional, mural, site-specific, or multi-media art installations in storefront windows, lobby display cases, outdoor wall spaces, and an outdoor video gallery in the City of Tacoma. The program offers an artist stipend to support the creation of new work and site-specific projects, or the installation of existing work. The Woolworth Windows, for example, are part of the Artscapes track. Click here to review guidelines and the application checklist.

2)  Special Projects provides short-term space (one day up to six months) to individuals or groups who want to pursue or present artwork, a creative special project or a pop-up store/event. Space is provided dependent on space availability and project needs. Examples include individual artist residencies to active projects to pop-up events and beyond. Click here to see examples. Spaceworks accepts Special Project applications on a rolling basis. Click here to review guidelines and the application checklist.

3) Creative Enterprise Program provides relevant and meaningful business training and peer-to-peer support to the participants to systematically grow Tacoma’s creative class and generate destination quality activity that will engage and transform our community. Affordable space is also provided, dependent on availability, to serve as a training ground to test new ideas, products and services with a safety net of technical assistance and mentorship. Creative Enterprises are long-term projects, most hold a set of regular business hours open to the public, and participation in occasional Spaceworks events is expected.
