Tacoma Studio Tour 2017- Spaceworks Participants

On October 14 & 15, 2017, you are invited inside the working studios of 70 local artists to learn about the artistic process, ask questions, and purchase one-of-a-kind creations. Plus, you can even win some fabulous items hand-crafted by a selection of artists on the tour just for getting your Studio Tour Passport stamped at each studio address you visit. All studios will feature demonstrations or will have hands-on activities for visitors. It’s family friendly and free!

Pick up your passport at Spaceworks Gallery, or any Studio Tour locations. You’ll find artist details, and contact information, as well as Studio Tour Passport. Get 8 or more stamps to enter drawing for prizes made by local artists.

Studios are open 11am – 5pm. We encourage you to bring cash or check for any purchases you would like to make.

Spaceworks Spotlight – birdloft

Jeff Libby and Adrienne Wicks are dedicated to creating a sense of sanctuary and authentic connectedness in our homes through their furniture made of salvaged wood. “We want to give new life to these materials,” says Jeff. In their home studio they craft the furniture together, shaping every curve and refining every angle with artistic flair and precision. The elegantly modern furniture designed by birdloft is born in a space permeated with the earthy spiciness of sawdust and stain. With the inventive touch of an alchemist, Adrienne mixes ebonizing solutions and epoxies. Jeff sources materials, searching for lumber with stories, often lugging 20-foot beams until they are cut into manageable pieces. He glues the wood and then connects people with its history through photography and narrative writing. Continue reading

REVIVE Furniture Collective joins February Third Thursday! Check out new works by Tacoma artists Nathan Dipietro and Greg Owen, along with REVIVE furniture in their (almost) brand-new showroom at 323 Puyallup Ave.

REVIVE is a collective of artisans; makers of locally crafted, sustainably sourced, custom made furniture and furnishings. Five local businesses come together to form the showroom known as REVIVE: Alchemy Concrete Works, Birdloft, RePly Furniture, Spring Fever Upholstry, and Wane & Flitch.

This group show features the fine woodworking of Carlos Taylor-Swanson; the photography of Harriet McNamara; the fine woodworking of birdloft, the design team of Adrienne Wicks and Jeff Libby (a current Creative Enterprise of Spaceworks); the ceramics of Claudia Riedener; and sculpture by Holly Senn (Spaceworks Alumni).

Moss + Mineral is located at 305 S. 9th Street in downtown Tacoma. Store hours are Thursday-Saturday, noon-5 and by appointment.
