In this round table discussion, artists Lisa KinoshitaMasahiro Sugano, and Asia Tail discuss how to make it as an artist in Tacoma. Moderated by Artist Trust Program Manager Katy Hannigan, the panel will talk about the opportunities, challenges, and resources for Tacoma artists and share their own experiences as working artists.

Audience members are invited to ask questions and share their own perspectives. A happy hour precedes the discussion honoring 2017 Artist Trust grant recipients from Tacoma.

Artist Trust Will Award $1,500 Each to 60 Recipients with Grants for Artist Projects

2017 Artist Trust Grants for Artist Projects is open

Artist Trust’s annual  Grants for Artist Projects is now open!

Artist Trust begins another year of Grants for Artists Projects (GAP) program. This cycle, they will grant $1,500 grants to 60 artists of all disciplines from all backgrounds and regions of the state. The grant is open to individual generative artists and artist teams working in any creative discipline and residing in Washington State. They are reaching for a large and diverse pool of artists applying from around the state.

NOTE: Applications submitted by April 17, 2017 are eligible for preliminary review and feedback from AT staff

In addition to the 60 GAP recipients, one artist will receive a one-month residency at Centrum located in Port Townsend and a $500 stipend. Continue reading

Exhibition Runs: March 9th to April 20th

Explore the dramatic impact of war, genocide, resettlement, and deportation of Cambodian Americans today while experiencing their cultural contributions. This exhibition features artwork by contemporary artists as well as photos and text from Khmer American: Naga Sheds Its Skin, an exhibition created by the Khmer American community and Wing Luke Museum of the Asian Pacific American Experience. Jason Sobottka – 1120 Creative House Featured Artist

Jason is the newest tenant at 1120 Creative House. He is a professional artist and arts educator. He is Lake Washington Institute of Technology’s first tenured visual art instructor. He exhibits his paintings, drawings, prints and sculptures around the nation. Jason was awarded the Winter 2012 Faculty Excellence Award and was nominated for 2016 Foundation of Art Award presented by the Greater Tacoma Community Foundation.

His past experience includes working for Tacoma Art Museum’s Education Department, where he designed and built the museum’s hands-on art making gallery, the Open Art Studio.

Join Artist Trust and artist Darcy Anderson to envision the future of Tacoma’s art scene! This Pop-up Studio is an opportunity to share your vision of the future, make some art, and connect with other local artists and supporters.

Facilitated by Frances McCue and Lisa Fitzhugh from Creative Ground, and in creative collaboration with a local artist, this workshop is the third in a series of Pop-up Studios where we’ll engage through creative activities with artists and arts supporters to imagine a vibrant future in Washington State alive with happy, productive, supported artists.

Do you know an artist in Washington State working in Media, Craft, Literary, or Music Arts who deserves recognition and support for their work? Encourage them to apply for Artist Trust’s Fellowship opportunity! Artist Trust is now accepting applications for this award of $7,500 given to 14 Washington State artists. They’re also granting a month-long residency at The Millay Colony of the Arts and a $1,000 stipend given to two artists in the field of Craft or Media looking for some time & space to create. Spread the word and help Artist Trust find and recognize incredible artists in the state and bring them into the next level of their exciting careers.

Upcoming Artist Trust Opportunities

Spaceworks wants you to be aware of two important opportunities through Artist Trust, an organization dedicated to supporting Washington State artists working in all creative disciplines.

Artist Trust’s Artist Survey is live through April 20. This statewide survey will help Artist Trust better understand and respond to the needs of individual artists of all disciplines and diversities. Every entry will be entered into a drawing to win a $200 prize for one lucky artist to apply towards things they need for making their art. The survey closes midnight April 20, 2015. https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/PX2BB5N

GAP applications are now open through May 18, 2015. A total of $90,000 will be awarded to 61 recipients across Washington State in all artistic disciplines. Each recipient will receive $1,500 for a project they are starting or needing to complete.
